Of mixed descent, including Cherokee, Kimberly L. Becker’s latest poetry collection is Bringing Back the Fire (Spuyten Duyvil). Her sixth book, Rivering, is forthcoming in 2025, also from Spuyten Duyvil, and her seventh, based on the traditional Cherokee story of the Uktena, will be released in 2026 by MadHat Press. Her poems appear widely in journals and anthologies, including Indigenous Message on Water; Women Write Resistance: Poets Resist Gender Violence; and Tending the Fire: Native Voices and Portraits (University of Nebraska Press), as well as in 23 Tales: Appalachian Ghost Stories, Legends, and Other Mysteries (Howling Hills). Her work has been nominated for a Pushcart. She has received grants from MD, NC, and NJ and held residencies at Hambidge, Weymouth, and Wildacres. Kimberly has read at venues from The National Museum of the American Indian (Washington, DC) and Split This Rock, to Wordfest. She has served as mentor for PEN America's Prison Writing and AWP's Writer to Writer programs.
